My Approach to Helping
My name is Xavier Walker, I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor. I am licensed in New York with 6 years of professional work experience. I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment.
My primary approach to therapy is to build a strong rapport with my clients through the use of various therapeutic approaches. My most commonly used theoretical approaches are Person-Centered Therapy, CBT, DBT, and Strengths-Based therapy.
I typically work with adult clients aging from 18-70. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, anger management, motivation, self-esteem, and confidence, & depression.
I like to make clients feel comfortable. Therefore, I use the best tone to form a working alliance with clients. This would be a calming and accepting environment that is free and safe from judgment. Working with me feels like casual and safe sessions in order to address both deep -ooted issues and surface-level concerns.
During our first session, you can expect a casual interaction in order to become more comfortable. You can feel free to ask me some questions in order to become familiar with who I am and make your experience as smooth as possible.
I decided to become a therapist because as a young child, I had a lot of relatives who had to manage various mental health issues. As a teenager, I always enjoyed talking to my friends about their problems. Therefore, I decided to take this route because it is the perfect blend of my past experiences and things that I enjoy. Therapy to me is very rewarding. Working with people to help them navigate through the difficulties of life helps me to feel fulfilled.
When setting goals with clients I take the role of a partner. We work together to explore what your goals are and plandevelop the necessary steps to reach those goals. You are the expert of your own lived experience. I am just here to help support you on your journey.
