My Approach to Helping

My approach to helping individuals is based on respect, validation, and acknowledgement of their experiences and struggles in life. Finding a person that can accept us despite our life choices is often difficult. Feelings of judgment, insecurity, and guilt may prevent many from breaking free from their past and moving forward. This stress may often appear not just psychologically but also physiologically (somatization) through frequent illness, etc. The process of breaking free is often lonely and intimidating. I will support you through your unique journey of moving forward and achieving the confidence you need to thrive and feel empowered. I will also help you better understand how stress may be impacting your physical health and ways of shifting this cycle.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

Choosing a therapist may be a process of testing several before committing to one. If possible, research a few theoretical approaches to therapy to find which may suit your needs prior to selecting a therapist. Secondly, the therapist is working for you, accordingly, ask questions that are important to you. Challenge yourself to overcome any intimidation you may have about asking questions related to your anticipated experience.

Compatibility is crucial. Rely on your intuition to guide you towards a decision of compatibility with your therapist. Similar to any other human, each therapist has their own personality which may or may not suit what you are seeking. Thirdly, if you are selecting a therapist based on a personal recommendation, take into consideration what may have worked for a friend may not necessarily be what you are seeking.

Stay in tune with what feels right for you and who you feel will be a good fit in supporting you through your unique experience. After you have made your selection, enjoy the wonderful experience of personal growth and empowerment. Good Luck.

Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance

A key factor in the therapeutic experience is the alliance and bond established between the parties. An inability to connect, feel comfortable, safe, and understood by the therapist hinders growth and healing and can potentially lead to a bad experience and harm to the client. The feeling of safety, respect, and security will promote healing. Accordingly, the therapist must work in a respectful and sensitive manner to support the client in achieving the therapeutic goals they have set for themselves.
