About Addison

Addison is a town located in Dallas County, Texas. The town was named after Addison Robertson, the second postmaster to serve the community. The town of Addison covers a land area of 4 square miles. It was incorporated in 1953. 

Addison has a population of 15,500 people. Around 85% of people in the town are United States citizens (compared to 93% of people nationwide). Of adults age 25 and older, 56% have a bachelor’s degree.

The racial composition of Addison is 52% white, 21% Hispanic, 11% black, and 11% Asian. Roughly 22% of people living in the town were born in a foreign country. Around 28% of residents speak a non-English language at home. 

Residents of Addison earn an average annual wage of $51,800. The median household income is $70,600. The town has a 20% homeownership rate. The median value of homes in the area is $307,300. Eight percent of the people in Addison live below the poverty line. 

Mental Health in Addison

Substance abuse is a serious issue in Dallas County. In 2011, over 11,500 people were treated for drug addiction at state-funded mental health facilities in the county. Among these cases, 35% involved the use of heroin. Since 2011, over 1,900 people have died of opioid overdoses in the region. The county currently has 38 addiction treatment facilities licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

In 2016, a new mental health facility opened in Addison with the aim of providing free mental health care to veterans and their families. The facility is known as the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Metrocare. Veterans can make appointments during office hours, evenings, or weekends. Services are offered to veterans living in Addison as well as veterans from across the country.
