Residential treatment centers are mental health facilities that provide therapeutic support for people experiencing adverse mental health conditions. Often referred to as rehab centers, these facilities are well known for providing treatment for those seeking recovery from drug or alcohol addiction, though treatment centers are available for a variety of mental health issues and behavioral challenges. For people who display h2 tobacco dependency, for example, an intensive eight-day residential program incorporating pharmacological and behavioral interventions yielded more lasting results than outpatient treatment alone.
Most treatment centers offer individual therapy sessions to residents with a mental health professional who specializes in the issue being treated; group therapy or support group sessions; medical supervision for the treatment of addiction and other physical health issues; and activities ranging from horseback riding to yoga to help residents develop self-esteem and healthy coping strategies.
Twenty-four hour services are offered at these centers and they often offer both inpatient and outpatient services. Treatment centers address a wide range of health concerns including borderline personality, suicidal ideation, depression, and obsessive-compulsive behaviors.
Mental Health America's (MHA) 2014 survey titled Parity or Disparity: The State of Mental Health in America, ranked Idaho at number 42 of all the states in terms of access to health care services. Based on MHA data, over 20% of adults reported experiencing mental health difficulties, and almost 9% of adult residents and 6% of youth experience substance abuse or dependence. About 9.5% of youth experienced a depressive episode and 7% attempted suicide.
The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index released in 2013, ranked the state 29th in terms of overall well-being across all the states. The state ranked 31st, 32nd, and 35th in work environment, life evaluation, and emotional health, respectively. In the category of healthy behaviors, Idaho was ranked 16th.
