Residential treatment is one of the most effective modes of treatment for people experiencing persistent addiction, or emotional and mental health challenges. These facilities offer 24-hour inpatient care in a neutral setting, removed from everyday stressors and routine life. Staff may include therapists, psychiatrists, and other medical and mental health professionals. Outpatient treatment programs are often available as well.
Many people consider rehabilitation centers to be places that treat severe drug and alcohol addiction problems, but in fact, many mental health conditions are treated by facilities that specialize in those conditions. Some treatment programs are designed to treat disordered eating concerns, for example, and residents will benefit from individualized treatment, in addition to informal support from peers who are experiencing similar symptoms.

Based on the 2013 Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, compared with other states, Mississippi ranked as number 48 for overall well-being; this is the same ranking the state achieved in 2012. The state was listed 17th for the emotional health criterion, and 26th for life evaluation. Mississippi ranked in the fifth quintile for physical health (43rd), healthy behaviors (43rd), basic access (49th), and work environment (50th). From the years 2008 to2013, the highest overall well-being ranking earned by the state was 45th. After the completion of Mental Health America's (MHA) 2014 mental health care survey, the state of Mississippi was ranked 50th, revealing a relatively high prevalence of adverse mental health conditions and low rates of access to care within the state. Of all 50 states and the District of Columbia, Mississippi was one of only five states to record low scores in Overall Ranking (50th), Adult Ranking (51st), and Youth Ranking (42nd). The state had an access ranking of 50th. More than 20% of adults in Mississippi report being affected by a mental health condition, which is one of the highest rates in the country.
Treatment sometimes requires relocating to a new state. If you need to relocate, try learning more about the state’s population before you go because it can make life and work transitions easier and less stressful. Roughly 3 million people live in the state of Mississippi. A quarter of the population is under the age of 18, while 14% is 65 years old or more. According to 2013 estimates, 60% of the population is white, 37% is black, and 1% identifies as Asian. The median household income for 2009 to2013 was $39,000—which is less than the $53,000 national average. While 15% of all Americans live below the poverty level, 23% of Mississippi residents live in poverty.
