Residential treatment—often just called rehab—provides intensive inpatient treatment for a variety of conditions, including compulsive behaviors, substance abuse and addiction, or emotional and mental health issues. These health care facilities provide a safe place for residents to stay while immersing themselves in healing and recovery. Some centers may provide outpatient treatment for those who prefer to return home each night or as supplementary care for residents transitioning back to home life.
There are a variety of factors dictating how long a person spends in residential treatment. A person's stay at a residential care facility may last for several days, a few weeks, a few months, or even up to a year, depending on the issue being treated and its severity, among other considerations. Individualized treatment plans addresses each person's set of circumstances, strengths, and needs.
People who have found limited success in other forms of treatment are encouraged to explore residential care as it allows a person to separate themselves from much of the stress of daily life that may cause or exacerbate mental health issues. Facilities are available to treat any number of conditions, from gambling addiction to schizophrenia.
