Residential treatment centers—also called rehab centers—are an important aspect of addiction, behavioral, and mental health issue treatment. Many facilities in the state offer inpatient and/or outpatient treatment options to serve various needs. Treatment methods may vary for different facilities, but there are many core practices which are common to rehab centers. For example, most residential programs include individual and group counseling sessions.
Individual counseling allows people in treatment to explore their innermost thoughts and feelings as they speak about their family background, past experiences, and emotional triggers. The therapist may use a variety of approaches to encourage people to express themselves comfortably, such as doing artwork, participating in physical activities, or maybe writing a journal. Group counseling presents residents with the chance to speak with other people in the program who are experiencing similar issues, but who may be at different stages in their own recovery program. In addition to counseling, those in residential treatment are able to assist their own recovery by separating themselves from the distractions and stress of day to day living.
