Residential treatment, also known as rehab, is used to address a variety of substance abuse, mental health, and behavioral health issues. Some of the conditions that are often treated in these facilities include, but are not limited to, eating and food issues (such as anorexia or bulimia), compulsive gambling, and sex addiction. Substance dependency issues may include the abuse of street drugs, prescription medication or over-the-counter drugs, or alcohol. For addiction recovery, medically supervised services such as detoxification are provided, as well as rehabilitation counseling.
These mental health facilities allow residents in need of treatment to access 24-hour monitoring and therapeutic services. This kind of intensive treatment may work well for more serious mental health concerns and for those who have tried other treatment options without success. Though residential programs focus on inpatient treatment, outpatient services may be available as well. Every program is different, but residential treatment programs typically include counseling services to support healing and recovery, address underlying emotional factors, and help residents cultivate healthy coping strategies.
