My Approach to Helping
Do you sometimes, or often, feel anxious, depressed? Are you struggling in relationships with others; with understanding yourself, or facing challenging transitions in your life? Therapy provides a safe, confidential space with someone who comes to know you well and journey with you toward understanding and healing. I offer a free initial consultation to meet, learn a bit about each other, and see if this feels like a good fit for working together. I look forward to meeting you.
More Info About My Practice
Therapy allows space for exploration with someone who listens well and helps to unravel the patterns and possible trauma that cause feelings of sadness, anxiety, confusion, and possibly self-harming behaviors andor difficulties in relationships with others. Developing an awareness of the patterns in one's life and the triggers that cause suffering helps us to understand our feelings, behaviors, and to make meaningful change toward healing. Sometimes therapy can be short-term, offering help with developing new coping skills (mindfulness, effective communication, tips for anxiety reduction, help with a life-transition, etc.) or can be longer term to sort out past trauma, attachment difficulties, or other areas causing deep pain.
My background includes previously working as an attorney and advocate in areas of domestic violence, family law, and homelessness. I decided to move into the counseling field several years ago to work more directly with individuals struggling with trauma whether from early childhood or traumatic experiences later in life. It is rewarding to work closely with clients to sort through these areas of suffering to find meaning, coping skills, and enjoyment in life and relationships.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I have professional experience working with older adolescents and adults in areas of anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, domestic violence, self harming behaviors, LGBTQ related issues, life transitions, self-esteem and self-agency.
