My Approach to Helping
Hi there! My name is Meghan Robbins and I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. My experience is primarily working with children, teens, and adults specializing in topics related to depression, anxiety, adjustment concerns, grief and loss, and trauma. I have experience utilizing various therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy. However, I believe that not one approach fits all and I prefer to take a collaborative approach that puts my clients in the driver's seat of their care.
I am most comfortable working with adolescent and young adults. However, I have experience with clients from all age ranges and background. I prefer to have a slightly laid-back approach to my therapy sessions. I never want my clients to feel like therapy is just another task on their to-do list. I hope that my clients can find some solace in the time they are meeting with me. I chose a career in social work because of its versatility. Most of my experience so far is working in medical settings where I've been able to gain a lot of knowledge and experience navigating mental health alongside medical crises. However, the idea of creating a welcoming and relaxed environment for my clients in a therapy-setting was very appealing to me.
I view goal setting as flexible process. I prioritize my client's preferences when approaching goal setting and also understand that goals are flexible and ever-changing. During the first session I mostly want to get to know you! I will tell you a bit about myself and my approach, as well as some logistics (I know, real fun stuff). But I mostly want to get a feel for my client and begin to understand what brings them to my (virtual) couch!
