My Approach to Helping
My name is Melissa Grossman and I am a licensed mental health therapist for Washington State. My therapeutic approach in supporting clients who are faced with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and more, is based on trust, client-centricity, and mindfulness. I use tools from ACT methodology, as well as DBT, CBT, and mindfulness. I work with clients who are challenged by anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, eating disorders, and stress management.
My goal is to create a therapeutic environment that is based on honesty, trust, meaning, and humor. I see the therapeutic session as a "sandbox" for exploring thoughts, creating perspective, identifying personal meaning and values that support the client's goals of a life well lived. There is so much to embrace in this honorable work, and I would say that being a participant in the client's journey towards creating space for acceptance and meaning is what makes this a "golden ticket" type of "gig."
Goal setting is based on what the client perceives as value-added to their lives. My job is to support the ideas, provide perspective, and assist the client in challenging any "bumps" that occur along the way in meeting those goals. The first session includes introductions, a review of expectations (both mine and yours), and then a review of your history, intentions for therapy, and how to move forward.
